As the weekend of NC State’s first home football game of the season approaches, so does the Young Alumni Council’s inaugural Young Alumni Weekend, an event catered to alumni under 35 years old.
“We thought it would be good to have a reunion type of weekend for people to get together with other alumni around their same age,” says Lauren Cranford ’06, president of the Young Alumni Council. “We’re hoping this becomes a signature event for young alums.”
The Young Alumni Council, in conjunction with the Alumni Association, will host events for alumni and their families, concluding with the home football game against the University of South Alabama at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Beginning Saturday morning, alums and their families can take campus tours led by the University Architect’s Office while children will enjoy games and face painting in the Brickyard. Before Saturday night’s football game, the Alumni Association will host its signature tailgate, where young alums can socialize and reconnect.
More than 50 people have registered for the event, but the Young Alumni Council would like to see even more participate. “We want this to be something that people look forward to every year around the first football game,” Cranford says.
“This event is a way to celebrate things young alums are interested in which is getting back together to remember the good times we had in school. It will help them remember why State is so important to them and what they’ll take away is that feeling and connection.”
