So maybe you’re not ready to write the next Great American Novel. But how about the best North Carolina Short Story?

NC State’s Creative Writing Program is sponsoring a contest for the best short stories. The contest is open to all North Carolina residents, including students, alumni and friends of the university. The only exceptions are anyone who has already published a book or is a tenure-track professor in the UNC system. For everyone else, here’s your chance to get your writing some exposure.

Entries are due by Oct. 1.

Author Tony Earley is this year’s guest judge, and will announce the winners and read from his own work on Nov. 7.

Visit the contest website for all the rules and requirements. Good luck!
