miles-2-imageTravis Miles’ years as a student at NC State led him to Antartica, where he spent several months this year studying how climate change impacts ecosystems on the frozen continent.

Miles’ journey from NC State, where he was a Park Scholar, to Antartica is chronicled in a story by the Park Scholars program.

Miles, who is pursuing his doctorate at Rutgers University, was based at Palmer Station, one of three American research stations located in Antartica as part of the Palmer Station Long-Term Ecosystem Research project. He used small boats to collect water samples and deployed autonomous underwater vehicles to gather data.
