Former NC State pitcher Daniel Caldwell was honored Sunday as Tar Heel of the Week by The News & Observer for his work with the Dhahran Youth Baseball Association in Saudi Arabia.

Caldwell (whose father, Mike Caldwell, also pitched for NC State) spent six weeks in Saudi Arabia this summer teaching baseball to children from Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, Kenya, India, South Africa, Lebanon, Venezuela and the United States, according to the article.

“It was an unbelievable experience to get to know people from around the world,” Caldwell told the newspaper. “We came from various places and had different backgrounds, but we shared the love of baseball.”
