Scotty McCreery is going to be slinging – not singing – for NC State this weekend.

McCreery, a junior at Garner High School, is one of three finalists left on this season of “American Idol.” Each of the finalists will be returning to their hometowns this weekend for parades, concerts and other festivities.

McCreery’s agenda includes a visit to Doak Field on Saturday, where he will throw out the first pitch before NC State takes on Florida State in baseball. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., but McCreery is expected to throw out the first pitch shortly before that.

McCreery’s father, Michael McCreery, is a 1988 graduate of NC State. Scotty McCreery was seen wearing an NC State t-shirt on the show earlier this season.

NC State athletics officials say there are a limited number of tickets available for the game. In anticipation of a sellout, they are encouraging fans to purchase tickets in advance.

Tickets are $7, and can be purchased online at or at the ticket office at Doak Field starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and fans are encouraged to arrive early.
