Gen. Hugh Shelton honored for distinguished leadership

sheltonThe Command and General Staff College Foundation is honoring retired Army Gen. Hugh Shelton ’63 with its 2011 Distinguished Leadership Award.

The honor will be presented to Shelton, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a dinner Thursday at The State Club at the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center.

Shelton is executive director of the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Center at NC State. He received an honorary doctor of humane letters from NC State in 1998.

Shelton is also director of the Hugh and Carolyn Shelton Military Neurotrauma Foundation.

The Command and General Staff College Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in the development of future military leaders.

The Distinguished Leadership Award was initiated in 2008. The first recipient was retired Gen. Colin Powell, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a former Secretary of State.
