Barrel Monster Goes National

Artist in a jam over traffic barrel monster @ Yahoo! Video

Several weeks ago we mentioned that the “Barrel Monster” had made a brief appearance on Hillsborough Street and was the work of a graffiti artist and an NC State student. Soon after, we added an update that the student — Joseph Carnevale — had been arrested and faces misdemeanor charges of larceny and injury to personal property for the creation. This blog isn’t a police blotter, and it won’t become one, but we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge this story, which has gone viral over the past several days with the likes of NPR picking it up. Others: MSNBC, The Smoking Gun, ABC News and the AP, including the video above.

The barrel monster was awesome….it showed creativity and originality. And it gave people a few laughs. The economy sucks and everyone is angry at everyone else. We need a laugh here and there. The world needs a better sense of humor.
