James L. Oblinger has resigned as chancellor effective immediately. Jim Woodward, former chancellor of UNC-Charlotte, will serve as interim chancellor.

Oblinger has issued a statement. UNC System President Erskine Bowles has issued a memo to the members of the UNC Board of Governors. NC State also has posted documents related to Mary Easley’s hiring that were given to the U.S. Attorney on June 8 and e-mails from former board chair McQueen Campbell ’93.

Update: Who is Jim Woodward? Business North Carolina profiled him in its September 2004 issue. The Georgia Tech Alumni Association has a short article about Woodward’s background.
