Robert Gibbs ’92 announced he will step down as White House Press Secretary in early February. . . . Political analyst and author Juan Williams will be the keynote speaker at NC State’s Martin Luther King Jr.  Campus Commemoration on Jan. 12 at 11:30 a.m. in Stewart Theatre. . . . Mr. & Ms. Wuf, NC State’s mascots, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows during halftime of the NC State-Wake Forest men’s basketball game on Saturday.

Nate Irving, a linebacker on the NC State football team, is named a Sports Illustrated’s First-Team All-America. . . . Agromeck and Windhover, the student yearbook and literary magazine respectively, are both finalists for the Crown award, one of the highest awards for college publications. . . . As part of a series of stories on local charities, the News & Observer profiles the Department of Animal Science’s Haiti Goat Project, which operates a 65-acre farm in the Haitian town of Gressier and feeds 1,400 to 1,500 Haitian children a day. . . . NASA.gov speaks with Phil Eberspeaker ’86, chief of the NASA Sounding Rockets Program Office. . . . The Bulletin features Caldwell Fellow Shelley Smith, who co-founded New Sense Studios to introduce at-risk youth to art. . . . NC State veterinarians help release nearly 90 turtles into the warm waters of the Gulf Stream current. . . . NPR talks to anthropology professor Scott Fitzgerald about how Yap — a small island in the Pacific Ocean — used stone money (which could weigh more than a car) hundreds of years ago . . . . Tula, a 6-month-old Appaloosa filly born blind, regains her sight after undergoing cataract surgery at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine’s Large Animal Clinic. . . . Nate Irving, a senior linebacker on the NC State football team, is named second team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. . . . Keith Earnshaw, an adjunct faculty member in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, creates a nonprofit to give military families a week’s respite at the beach. . . .  Registration opens for the 2011 Krispy Kreme Challenge, which will be held on Feb. 5. Running the challenge was one of the 52 items on our list of things all NC State students should do before they graduate, which we published in the Autumn 2010 issue of NC State magazine.
