The year 2010 was one of change at NC State — a new chancellor, a new athletics director, a new Alumni Association executive director. There was also new looks on campus — a renovated Thompson Hall, a restored Color Wall, and a reworked Hillsborough Street. We documented those changes in our annual calendar, which goes to all Alumni Association members, and featured the new-look Hillsborough Street in a cover story in NC State magazine’s Winter 2010 issue. Now, as we work on our Spring 2011 issue, we want to hear from you about the biggest changes that occurred on campus when you were a student at NC State.
Tell us about the most interesting or significant change to campus during your time as a student — and what it meant for you. Were you here when the Brickyard was constructed or when the men’s basketball team left Reynolds Coliseum for the RBC Center? Did a new program launch or was a new student gathering-place created?

We’re working on a feature story about the renovated Hillsborough Street for NC State’s Winter 2010 issue. To complement the story, we want to hear from you about your most unforgettable memories of Hillsborough Street. What was the most interesting, unusual or significant thing that you associate with Hillsborough Street? Did you go there to celebrate a big win or special occasion? Go on a memorable date or attend a significant gathering at one of the street’s restaurants? Have a part-time job in one of the businesses there? Or something else?

When the 4,550 members of NC State’s Class of 2014 showed up for orientation this summer, they got a new deck of cards. But not just any deck of cards; this one was developed by the NC State Alumni Association’s student ambassadors, the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service, and Student Government to give incoming students a list of 54 things they could do on campus to help them make the most out of the next four years. (Or five. Or six.)
We thought that was a great idea. So we developed a list of 52 things that we alumni are glad to have experienced, as well as some that we wish we had done, compiled with a little help from our NC State Alumni Association Facebook fans. The entirety of our list appears as the cover story in NC State magazine’s Autumn 2010 issue, which hits mailboxes soon. But, we’ve also compiled a one-page cheat sheet that you can download here. How many NC State experiences can you check off the list? What are your memories of those experiences? What would you add to the list? Let us know by leaving a comment or sending us an e-mail at ncstate_editor@ncsu.edu.
And click here to read the 54 items on the playing cards that freshmen received during orientation and here to read the suggestions from our Facebook page fans.
