Dr. Tom Stafford, vice chancellor for student affairs, will retire by mid-2012 after 40 years with NC State.

Stafford is a familiar face to NC State alumni. From football tailgates to homecoming parades, Stafford is always there supporting the university and alumni programs.

“Dr. Stafford has always been a strong supporter of our events and programs. He has played a vital role in the NC State class ring ceremonies, and I can’t imagine anyone looking better in a tux riding down Hillsborough Street in the annual homecoming parade,” said Cody Williams, assistant director of marketing and business relations for the Alumni Association.

Stafford, a Henderson native, was honored in 2002 with the establishment of the Thomas H. Stafford Jr. Spirit Bell, which is awarded each year to the overall winner of our Homecoming Spirit Competition.

Read more about Stafford’s career in the Bulletin. The Technician also wrote about his retirement, and put together a photo gallery of his career.

We wish Stafford all the best in his future pursuits, but we’re not letting him of the hook for our homecoming festivities. Post your goodwill wishes for him here.
